Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the quick descending corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
